Brown University marks the 250th anniversary of its founding with 15 months of events and activities designed to share a fuller and deeper understanding of the University and its historic and ongoing partnership with Providence and Rhode Island. Sponsoring WaterFire Providence, founded by alumnus Barnaby Evans, is an opportunity to invite all Rhode Islanders to the magical open-air testament to creative expression that celebrates our capital city.

Sunset time: 5:51 p.m.
All Full Lighting WaterFire installations light up over eighty braziers from Waterplace Park to Memorial/South Main Street Park. Lighting occurs shortly after sunset and the event continues until just past midnight. Please check this page frequently for updated information. Updated 10/21/14.

Light a Luminaria Candle Lantern
Make a dedication, wish, or remembrance by lighting a candle lantern at one of our Luminaria installations along the river. Add your light to the night at the Starry, Starry Night installation in Memorial Park or near the Bridge of Stars along the riverwalk below the Jacky’s Waterplace Restaurant.
Brown University students and their families are encouraged to the schools 250th anniversary and Imagine 250+ on social media, use #Brown250 and mention @WaterFireProv and we’ll share you photos online.

Nursing Placement Memorial Hospice will be hosting a memorial service in Memorial Park to honor and remember all of those that have passed in the last year in hospice care. Starting from Washington Street, Nursing Placement will be joined by family and friends of their hospice program to process to upper Memorial Park to dedicate luminaria to each person that has passed in hospice during 2014 surrounding the word, “LOVE” spelled out in luminaria on the park floor.
11:00 a.m. – Benefit Street: A Mile of History walking tour with the Rhode Island Historical Society
Created in the mid-18th century “for the benefit of all,” this colonial thoroughfare shows off an enviable collection of 18th and 19th century wood-frame houses. Although the street gives the appearance of being a museum mile, it is actually a vital urban neighborhood enhanced by on-going preservation efforts since the 1950s.

5:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. The WaterFire Store on Canal Street

The WaterFire Store on Canal Street is open for business. Stop in and buy a t-shirt, hoodie, poster, magnet, pendants and much more to help support WaterFire and keep the fires burning. Also make sure to check out the Photos of WaterFire tent on Washington Street. This tent will have matted photo prints, featuring the work of our Volunteer Photographers; WaterFire Providence postcards; large format photo posters; and silk screen prints by local artists.
6:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. The WaterFire Arts Festival Plaza on Washington Street

Located on Washington Street in the heart of the WaterFire installation, the Arts Festival Plaza is a showcase for local artists and crafts-people. From photography and sculpture, paintings and hand-crafted ceramics, to jewelry and specialty textiles, the WaterFire Arts Festival Plaza features a wide range of locally crafted artisan wares to exhibit for sale to WaterFire’s visitors.
Sunset – 10:30 p.m. – Fire Dancers Performing Along the River

Fire dancer Liz Knights will be performing on the river starting with the lighting of the braziers on the wall in Memorial Park. She will be performing several times in various locations throughout the evening.

your blog has an error on the date for October 25- headline reads 10/25; body copy reads 10/11. hope the 10/25 date is correct as I’ve made travel plans for the 25th.
