Argentine Tango returns to WaterFire Providence

Often seen as a staged performance, Argentine Tango is much more of an intimate improvisation involving a leader and a follower in a social atmosphere where dancers of all ages and abilities can enjoy the pleasures of this music and dance style. The performances at WaterFire Providence will be the much more accessible version, danced at social dances all over the world. Performers come from Providence Tango, Argentine Tango at the Towers, and other locations in New England will be welcoming you into their world.

Every dance is unique and unchoreographed– a fusion of the dancers, the music and the feelings in that moment. Beginning after the lighting ceremony and running throughout the evening, performances will happen spontaneously at six locations along the riverbanks at the Waterplace Stage, the Pershing Bridge, the Bridge of Stars, the Confluence (off Canal Street), and by the RISD flag poles.  The times can be found by consulting that evening’s music program listing on the WaterFire website.  Members of the public are encouraged to come meet the dancers and learn more and participate in an open milonga (dance) held on the Citizens Bank Plaza from 10:30 p.m. till midnight.

  2. Dear Tim,
Alas, the Stephen Hopkins House will NOT be open for tours for the September 4th WaterFire, because this full lighting falls on a SUNDAY. Sorry!
The museum is open only on Saturdays, or by appointment.
All the full lightings this season, except this one, have been on Saturdays, and we’ve been open, as we will be again for WaterFire on September 24th, and October 1st, and November 5th.
    Hope to see everyone then!
    Thanks,

    Kim Clark, Chair
    The Stephen Hopkins House

  3. Hello WaterFire Staff,
I looked desperately for a WaterFire FAQ and could not locate one.
What happens in the event of rain? I was planning on attending the event scheduled for September 4th, 2016 – Full Lighting, and the weather forecast looks iffy at best. 😉
Thanks in advance for your response,
    ~Leo

    SUGGESTING THE TANGO DANCING PIRAMID
Jaime Alvarez.white suite & Kathryn Curtis blackdress@ basin stage WaterFireParkFest Tango . Providence RI September 4, 2016

Well, what we can see. of Muna Swahiro’s picture, is the tango footing of JaimeAlvarez&KathrynCurtis dancing tango in a closed close embrace. THIS IS “DOWNSTAIRS” not betraying the “upstairs”…

Down here, at the feet level, is the base of the couple’s “dance.piramid”…. the image shows an elongated lady’s leg moving in a backward direction with the intensity and skill of a panther and a man’s firm forward footing in a big cat “lyon like fashion” securily advancing yet in a sensual motion sensitive to her backward steping, moving both dancers in an artful playful dual and separate action yet superbly synchronized motion, in harmony with the structure as well as the feeling of the soulful music that pierces the heart.

MEMORIES OF WATER FIRE FEST 2016

WATER FIRE PARK, PRVIDENCE RHODE ISLAND 4th SEPTEMBER 2016 where in 6 stages  TANGO GUERRILLAS are waiging a war of love expressed on motions rendering the “intoxicating to the heart” sounds of unforgetable music :

On both sides of the river. the water way is flanked by couble stones side walks, meandering along the water way; image ¡n your mind the middle of the water that surrounds and caresses a cup like structures placed at discreet distant from each other in the middle of the river, 89 giant “braziers”, containing huge piles of wood kept burning from sundown to past midnight by devoted volunteers in multiple boats navegating in the half darkness of night keeping the flames up… the flames shimmering,  gleaning light and producing smells of wood burning, flashing flares up into the hearts of thousands and thousands of souls milling around or couples corousing inside of the gondolas cruising up and down the river, totally kidnapped, absolutly taken in their hearts by the beauty of the burning wood fires, the light, shimmering on the water and… and … some, some couples dancing pasionately the romance of the ever present and incredibly beautiful soulful music that penetrates the heart and the surrounds; sounds, smells and visuals that take over all of our senses transporting us to an everland in our souls, in our hearts in our minds. TO CREATE INSIDE OF EACH OF US AND UNFORGETTABLE IMAGES AND FEELINGS THAT WILL DEFY TIME AND MAKE SOLID MEMORIES OF THIS DAY

    TANGO FEET – PIES TANGUEROS
Jaime Alvarez.white suite & Kathryn Curtis blackdress@ basin stage WaterFireParkFest Tango . Providence RI September 4, 2016

Well, what we can see. in Muna Swahiro’s picture, is the tango footing of JaimeAlvarez&KathrynCurtis dancing tango in a closed close embrace. THIS IS “DOWNSTAIRS” that becase corporal disasociation is not betraying the “upstairs”… TOTAL CONTACT OF THE CLOSE EMBRACE.

Down here, at the feet level, is the base of the couple’s “corporal.piramid”…. the image shows an elongated lady’s leg moving in a backward direction with the intensity and skill of a mystical black cougar and a man’s firm forward footing in a big cat “lyon like fashion” securily powerful advancing, yet in sensual motion sensitive to her backward steping, moving both dancers in an artful playful dual and separate action yet superbly synchronized motion, in harmony with the structure as well as the feeling of the soulful music that pierces the human heart.
