Starry, Starry Night
As we noted earlier our Starry, Starry Night installation was inspired by a painting by Vincent Van Gogh. The blue color of the stars was picked specifically to provide a counterpoint to bright orange light of the fires. This installation turns Memorial Park into an incredibly magical place.
Luminaria Candles
Each candle lit in Memorial Park represents a dedication made by a visitor. Dedications range from memories of lost love-ones to romantic gestures and the ubiquitous “FREE BUDDY” comments.
Luminaria candles frequently play a role in events created in our Celebrate Program.
Wish Upon A Star

Wishing on stars is a tradition in many cultures, although the origin of this act is shrouded in mystery.
At the Starry, Starry Night installation visitors can write a wish on a piece of white ribbon and hang it on a star. WaterFire tradition states that all wishes made at WaterFire will come true as long as you keep our commitment to creating a better world through art and community building in your heart when you return home.
Elements of Nature
WaterFire is deeply connected to the natural world. In the twenty-first century, concern for the environment is ever-present and WaterFire is committed to the cause.
This is the Final Egg! Congratulations and thanks for playing! Fill out our winner’s form and we’ll enter you in drawing for a chance to win a WaterFire prize package. Winners will be selected on Friday, April 17, 2020.
Stars!
Each star in the installation is assembled by hand by our dedicated team of staff, interns, and volunteers. Each full lightings requires upwards of 150 stars. Additional stars a made as seller-star packages and can be purchased at the event.

About the WaterFire Easter Egg Hunt
Last week Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo delighted us all when she announced that she had decreed that the Easter Bunny was an “essential worker” and that she/he* will still be making the rounds, hiding eggs, and dropping off treats for the kids. Inspired by this can-do attitude we put together this egg hunt to help the Easter Bunny reach more people over the internet so everyone can have fun this weekend.
Some of the eggs hidden in our images are Pysanky (Ukrainian for Easter eggs). These beautifully painted eggs are considered by many to be the highest form of decorated eggs the world over. Learn more about the history of Easter Eggs.
* Yes, indeed. Of course the gender of the Easter Bunny is a long standing controversy. We contacted Easter Bunny HQ for the Bunny’s preferred pronouns, but have not yet heard back.
