July 26, 2014 – Music Program
During the portion of the evening’s music program from 8:07pm – 9:00pm there will be a series of performances in the Waterplace Park Basin by Gendo Taiko and Festival Ballet Providence.
These performances were composed and choreographed for RI Defeats Hep C to help raise awareness of the disease.
Taiko drumming originated in Japan as a way to drive out evil spirits. Gendo Taiko was formed in 2004 by two Brown University Students, the name Gendo Taiko means “Path to Inspiration.”
Festival Ballet’s performances were choreographed to highlight the idea that 1 in 30 persons of the baby boomer generation may be infected. Their performances are set to songs by artists such as The Beatles and Crosby, Still, & Nash to connect more deeply with that generation which is most at risk.
