July 30, 2022 – Music Program
With a heavy heart, we mourn the recent passing of Bramwell Tovey, the artistic director of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and Music School.
Bramwell was a brilliant ambassador for music, particularly new music, who was much loved all across the world. He was both a conductor, a musician, and a composer, and particularly loved low brass. Tonight we are featuring Bramwell Tovey conducting one of Albert Roussel’s modern fanfares [“Fanfare pour un sacre paien” 1921] for the Hep C Promethea Torch procession — which will be the last fanfare as we light WaterFire. Bramwell was also a composer, and tonight we are also presenting two wistful compositions from the film Eighteen. All of us will miss him but will remember him in the joy of the music that he gifted to the world.
