WaterFire Providence, world-renowned arts organization and one of the leading creative placemaking practitioners in the country, seeks dynamic individuals to join their StarField Event Day Staff team.
This Event Day Staff position works on the Installation during the WaterFire Full Lighting events in downtown Providence. Under the management of the Events and Operations team, StarField Event Day Staff will be deeply involved with the logistics and production of the art installation. Candidates for this position will be adaptable, engaged, and energetic individuals who thrive in a public-facing role.
Event Dates + Shifts Offered
StarField Event Day Staff are required to work all WaterFire Full Lighting events. Full Lightings occur on select Saturdays between June-November—usually (10) events per year. Starry, Starry Night Event Day Staff typically work from 4PM to 2AM, for a duration of (10) hours. This position is considered a half-shift, and supplements our full-shift Event Day Staff. Staff have a paid dinner break, and WaterFire supplies all food and refreshments for staff.
If more hours are of interest, there are limited opportunities for additional shifts. You may be asked to work our smaller “Basin” lightings, assist with “Truck Tuesday” inventory management, and fulfill other working opportunities as they arise.
Event Location
WaterFire Full Lighting events are located outdoors in downtown Providence from Memorial Park to WaterPlace Park. StarField Event Day Staff work primarily in Memorial Park. WaterFire Full Lightings are rain or shine events.
Responsibilities
- Reports to Memorial Park at 4PM on event days
- Assists with unloading/loading equipment at the event U-Haul trucks
- Prepares Starry, Starry Night installation area. Tasks include setting up pop up tents, tables, signage, and preparing inventory for the installation.
- Assists with other art installation set-ups in Memorial Park
- Manages operation of Starry, Starry Night during the event. Engages with guests, completes sales, installs Stars and Luminaria in Memorial Park.
- Assists with the complete breakdown and load out of the event materials
- After Starry, Starry Night breakdown is complete, StarField Event Day Staff assist other WaterFire teams in full event strike.
Qualifications:
- Requires a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Attendance at WaterFire Full Lighting events is required (Saturdays)
- Experience in public facing roles, customer service, or special events is a plus
- Experience in or passion for the arts is a plus
- Ability to work extended hours, in the outdoors and in any type of weather
- A positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent critical thinking abilities and performs well under pressure
- Ability to lift and/or move 50 pounds
Benefits & Wages:
This is a seasonal part-time, hourly wage position. The hourly wage is $22 per hour. Other employment and advancement opportunities may be available.
