TroopTop Thursday, August 29 at the WaterFire Arts Center

The community is invited to TroopTop Thursdays at the WaterFire Arts Center every Thursday this summer, through August 29. WaterFire Providence and Valley neighborhood restaurant, Troop PVD, have collaborated to create a rooftop bar with live musical performances and arts experiences as well as a fundraiser for the featured non-profit organization of the night. TroopTop is supported by Cross Insurance, US Rubber Lofts proudly managed by Brady Sullivan Properties, and Boston Document Systems. Programming for each evening is presented by Little Guy At The Gig. 

Thursday, August 29

TroopTop on Thursday, August 29 is from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with performances by Ballet Folklórico and Luis Guilberto. This week in the gallery we are hosting the exhibition for the closing celebration of NetWorks Rhode Island and the Chazan Collection: A Half-Century of RI Artistic Patronage an Exhibition of Over 100 Rhode Island Artists.

TroopPVD will donate a portion of the proceeds from sales of their specialty cocktail to the Onleyville Neighborhood Association. The Olneyville Neighborhood Association (ONA) was founded informally in the 1990s as a center for neighbors in one of Rhode Island’s most impoverished regions to address day-to-day living situations. Many people of Guatemalan, Puerto Rican, Dominican, and Mexican origin recognized that external reasons were driving displacement by removing local jobs, rising rent and mortgages, and inciting a cultural war between immigrants and people of color. ONA has provided a platform for communities to coordinate community defense programs and direct action campaigns aimed at defending and advancing the rights of undocumented immigrants.
