Where does your inspiration come from?
For WaterFire Accelerate Artist Sydney Darrow, it comes from the people, experiences, and memories in her own life. A native Rhode Islander, Sydney has been exploring the arts from a very early age and continues to grow her practice today.
In September, Sydney became one of the six emerging artists under 30 that make up the third cohort of the WaterFire Accelerate program. Throughout the year, this exceptional group takes part in monthly workshops, meetings, and site visits to connect them with the information and experience they need to succeed as artists. Sydney herself describes the program best:
Since Accelerate kicked off this fall, Sydney and her work have been featured at WaterFire lightings, the 7th Annual FireBall Gala, the Graduate Providence’s holiday celebrations, and GoLocalProv’s Inside Art column. She and her peers also currently have pieces for sale in the Accelerate show at UNFI Cafe and the annual BuyArt small works holiday show and sale at the WaterFire Arts Center. It’s extraordinary how much this cohort has been able to accomplish already, and we’re all eagerly awaiting their group exhibition in July.
This is what WaterFire Accelerate is all about connecting local, emerging artists with the opportunities, networks, and resources they need to build a career in the arts. But we truly need your help to make it possible.
