Everyone will be able to recognize the WaterFire Arts Center when traveling down Valley Street. But far less visible are the many underground services that it takes to operate a building of the Art Center’s size. Contaminated earth from the west side of the building is piled in the back and replaced with clean. Steel fabric that will be used to reinforce the parking surfaces has arrived and is stored before installation. Underground oil/water separators are buried to make sure the water that leaves the building is free from those contaminants. New electrical lines are installed beneath the ground. You can see that even before the building’s renovations, there were many information technology lines running into the building, all of which will have to be replaced with new and many additional lines as well.
