WaterFire is bringing back The Map Center this season! As WaterFire visitors come by Canal Street they are able to put a colored pin on a map of where they are from. These maps are sorted by Rhode Island, the United States, and the World. Our visitors have the opportunity to choose their pin’s color based on how many times they have visited WaterFire or if WaterFire was the reason they are visiting Providence. The results from each WaterFire show how many people from all over the World and the U.S. come to see this event.
These results are from a few of the full lightings we held throughout June and July of the 2023 WaterFire season. We had upwards of 1,000 participators across the three events and while many of them are from right here in the United States, 28% of participators were visiting from other countries.
June 24
- 5 people from Egypt said they had visited WaterFire several times
- The top state visitors were from Massachusetts
- There were 65 visitors from countries other than the U.S.
- 382 visitors pinned where they were from at the June 24 WaterFire
July 8
- There were 93 visitors from countries other than the U.S.
- Most visitors came from New England
- Top country visitors (excluding the U.S.) were from India
- 300 visitors pinned where they were from at the July 8 WaterFire
July 22
- There were 144 visitors from countries other than the U.S.
- 5 people from California were first-time WaterFire visitors
- Top country visitors (excluding the U.S.) were from China
- 386 visitors pinned where they were from at the July 22 WaterFire
