WaterFire Providence’s Earth Month Cleanups on Providence’s Rivers and In the Valley Neighborhood Are a Huge Success

On Saturday, April 20th WaterFire Providence hosted 2 two Earth Month clean-up initiatives. Over 60 amazing volunteers came out to the WaterFire Arts Center and downtown to clean up the Valley Neighborhood and to remove litter and debris from the Providence River.

On Valley Street, 30 volunteers split up into teams to collect debris from the walking paths and sidewalks near the WaterFire Arts Center. At the end of the morning, we accumulated 20 bags of trash, including a car bumper and even a television. On the Providence River, 30 crew members removed, trash, tree branches, and other treasures from the water.

During the cleanups, folks were able to print a limited edition Earth Day design at our ArtLab@WaterFire Creative Labs BYOT workshop. Folks were able to learn about the art of printmaking, while reusing shirts and totes they brought from home. Learn more about upcoming Creative Labs Art Workshops at the WaterFire Art Center.

Even in the rain, our volunteers still showed up and brought great energy to our clean-ups! Thank you for all of your hard work to keep to neighborhoods WaterFire calls home clean!

A special thank you to the Providence Parks Department and Rhode Island DEM for their support in making such a great impact with this cleanup!!
