Arts Management Internship

Supervisors: Barnaby Evans, Executive Artistic Director, and Emily Gray, Executive Assistant 

Term: Fall / Winter / Spring / Summer

Full-time and part-time positions available; flexible scheduling.

Compensation: Unpaid | May be used for academic credit, career exploration, or service learning. Applicants are encouraged to check with their Career Center for possible funding resources from their college or university.

Mission Statement of WaterFire Providence:

WaterFire Providence’s mission is to inspire Providence and its visitors by revitalizing the urban experience, fostering community engagement, and creatively transforming the city by presenting WaterFire for all to enjoy and curating world-class art experiences at the WaterFire Arts Center. 

Job Overview: 

WaterFire is first and foremost an evolving artistic expression that strives to greet its visitors with something new each and every time they visit. Working with the WaterFire team, the intern will assist in this creative process. Through building relationships with local artistic partners, problem-solving logistical details, and assisting in support functions, the intern will gain insight into the creative process involved in an arts and nonprofit organization.

Responsibilities: 

  • Support the Artistic Director in collaborating with external financial and artistic partners
  • Research projects as needed
  • Assist in the management of a major arts grant
  • Collaborate and problem-solve logistical details involved in new artistic ventures
  • Play an instrumental role in WaterFire lightings throughout the given season

WaterFire is a seasonal event, and responsibilities will vary accordingly per the discretion of the WaterFire Providence administration.

 Qualifications: 

  • Excellent communication skills
  • A solid understanding of Mac/PC Platform, Google Drive, and Excel Database
  • Interest in taking on artistic and feasibility research for special projects during events
  • An understanding and interest in grant writing and foundation research for fundraising efforts
  • A valid driver’s license or reliable form of transportation
  • A sense of humor, and enthusiasm to work with a committed team
