In partnership with WaterFire Providence, Flames of Hope: A Celebration of Life™ is meant to bring together the community in one location with a mission of hope and support. The Gloria Gemma Foundation is a resource when patients and families need it most.

October 11th, 2014 Event Schedule:

Sunset time: 6:12 p.m.

All Full Lighting WaterFire installations light up over eighty braziers from Waterplace Park to Memorial/South Main Street Park. Lighting occurs shortly after sunset and the event continues until just past midnight. Please check this page frequently for updated information. Please note that the Waterplace Park basin lighting will occur at approximately 7:45 p.m. in conjunction with a  very special performance and a large torch lighting ceremony. The braziers from Exchange Street to Crawford Street will be lit at their regular time shortly after sunset. Updated 10/8/14.

Flames of Hope a Celebration of Life at Station Park

  • 1:00 p.m. – Celebration Village opens
    • Education and Wellness Pavilion

  • 3:30 p.m. – Main Stage: One Wild Night – A Bon Jovi Tribute
  • 6:00 p.m. – Illuminations of Life Ceremony
    • Concludes with the Annual Torch Procession and Lighting of WaterFire Providence
  • 7:00 p.m. – The ARS Pink Party – ticketed event
    • Featuring Food, Desserts and Beverages
  • 8:00 p.m. – Breaking Boards for Breast Cancer
  • 9:00 p.m. – Main Stage: Joshua Tree – A U2 Tribute

11:00 a.m. – Benefit Street: A Mile of History walking tour with the Rhode Island Historical Society

Created in the mid-18th century “for the benefit of all,” this colonial thoroughfare shows off an enviable collection of 18th and 19th century wood-frame houses. Although the street gives the appearance of being a museum mile, it is actually a vital urban neighborhood enhanced by on-going preservation efforts since the 1950s.

WaterFire Providence lapel pins, photo by Jennifer Bonin. The WaterFire Store on Canal Street is open for business. Stop in and buy a t-shirt, hoodie, poster, magnet, pendants and much more to help support WaterFire and keep the fires burning. Also make sure to check out the Photos of WaterFire tent on Washington Street. This tent will have matted photo prints, featuring the work of our Volunteer Photographers; WaterFire Providence postcards; large format photo posters; and silk screen prints by local artists.

6:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. The WaterFire Arts Festival Plaza on Washington Street

Located on Washington Street in the heart of the WaterFire installation, the Arts Festival Plaza is a showcase for local artists and crafts-people. From photography and sculpture, paintings and hand-crafted ceramics, to jewelry and specialty textiles, the WaterFire Arts Festival Plaza features a wide range of locally crafted artisan wares to exhibit for sale to WaterFire’s visitors.

5:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. GEICO and Fat Belly’s Irish Pub on Steeple Street.

Starting at 5:00 p.m., don’t forget to go visit the Gecko from your Geico | Local Office and get your picture taken with the well-known mascot! Enjoy food and beverage service from Fat Belly’s Irish Pub in their outdoor beer garden.

National Grid Mobile Device Charging Stations – Canal Street and Market Square

Power up with National Grid!  National Grid charging stations will be located throughout the event on October 11th.  Stop by and charge up your smart phones and other electronic devices so that you can capture all of the incredible sights at WaterFire.

 

Sunset – 10:30 p.m. – Fire Dancers Performing Along the River

Benjamin Reynolds will be performing on the river starting with the lighting of the braziers on the wall in Memorial Park. He will be performing several times in various locations throughout the evening.

    1. The main stage will be located in Station Park which is the larger field located between Providence Place Mall and the Train Station.
