A cherished member of the WaterFire family
Jean Giorgio was a dear friend and a longtime member of the WaterFire Providence community: as a volunteer, a part-time staff member, and a trusted presence for more than a decade.
Jean first joined WaterFire as a volunteer in 2010, becoming a regular part of the “Morning Build” team (moving the wood for the lightings!) and later serving as a welcoming and enthusiastic WaterFire Ambassador during events. In 2019, she officially joined our staff, stepping into any role where support was needed; from visitor services and retail at our front desk of the WaterFire Arts Center, to assisting with venue rentals, and most recently, serving as a trusted part-time bookkeeper.
She was part of a crucial team effort during the pandemic, contributing to the thoughtful, collaborative work that helped the organization endure and adapt in unprecedented circumstances. Jean met those challenging times with adaptability, generosity, and deep care for community; qualities that defined her presence at WaterFire.
Jean gave generously of her time, talents, and kindness over many years. Her warm presence, steady reliability, and deep care for our mission touched so many, and she was, without question, a beloved and integral part of our community.
Jean passed away on May 7, 2025. We continue to hold her husband Frank, also a dedicated WaterFire volunteer, their children and beloved grandchildren in our hearts.

Over the last 10+ years, alongside some incredible co-workers and volunteers, I've worked to build the organization that WaterFire Providence is today. As Director of Creative Services, my team and I work on visual communications, graphic design, the visitor experience, merchandising as well as project management for programming at the WaterFire Arts Center. Being a part of the 'Rhode Island' experience for tens of thousands of people is incredible and I have an intense pride in place for both Downtown Providence and the Valley neighborhood.
