Wednesday, April 27 Season Kick-Off Lighting

WaterFire Providence is pleased to announce that it will kick off its 2022 WaterFire event season with our Strike the Match fundraiser and Basin Lighting on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. 

The Strike the Match lighting and fundraiser will begin with a press conference on the stage in Waterplace Park before sunset, speakers will include community stakeholders, WaterFire creator, executive artistic director, and coCEO Barnaby Evans, and WaterFire managing director and coCEO Peter Mello. The full 2022 WaterFire season schedule will be announced at this event. WaterFire will be returning to form with a full summer and fall lighting season including at least 10 full lightings and several smaller lightings. The press conference will be followed by a Basin Lighting of WaterFire, including the 5 braziers leading up towards the mall.

A ticketed Strike the Match fundraiser will be held at Skyline restaurant, VIP Reception tickets are available now for $25. Supporters are also invited to join WaterFire as Torchbearers and Guest Lighters by making gifts at the $275 and $525 levels respectively. The fires will remain lit until 10:00 p.m. Tickets for the Strike the Match Fundraiser can be purchased online.

Cirque de Light, a New England-based entertainment company specializing in circus, fire, and LED entertainment, will have a fire spinner doing several short performances in Waterplace Park and on the river during the Strike the Match event on April 27.
