Building for the Future Episode 11 | Installing a Second Floor

Donald Hawes from RI Welding was kind enough to speak to us about the installation process used to create the second floor in The WaterFire Arts Center. Donald installed hanging columns from the existing beams and used existing columns as well to create a platform for the new floor. All of these elements had to be carefully installed for safety and to make sure that concrete would not leak from any gaps in between the floor decking. You can see the fabrication of these parts in Episode 4 of Building for the Future. It has been great to see the whole process of these parts coming from RI Welding and Fabricating to their installation at The WaterFire Arts Center!
