Creative Services Assistant

WaterFire Providence, one of the leading creative placemaking practitioners in the country, seeks a dynamic individual to join its team. The Creative Services Assistant will be responsible for work in these areas: graphic design, multimedia production, social media, merchandising, and visitor experience. Candidates for this position will be involved in our lighting events in Downtown Providence and our programming, exhibitions, and events at the WaterFire Arts Center (WFAC) in the Valley neighborhood. This position offers the opportunity to deeply engage with a growing arts non-profit and its community. Ultimately, this individual will help us build and maintain a strong and cohesive brand online and offline.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help design promotional materials for events, special projects, and targeted appeals.
  • Prepare content for internal and external use (like guidelines and glossaries).
  • Create customizable templates that can be used for multiple purposes, including event promotions and presentations.
  • Write copy for marketing and communications material, including press releases, infographics, and social media posts.
  • Coordinate the collection of images, logos, stats, and content to use in various creative projects.
  • Assist in all creation and effective execution of the overall multimedia and video production strategy, including all department’s social media initiatives.
  • Lead, build, and maintain our brand presence in the digital space.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating our websites, including our e-commerce website.
  • Cultivate fan engagement on all social media sites including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc. 
  • Maintain updated records of the video, images, and guides that we use.
  • Research and recommend new ideas for strengthening our brand.
  • Assist in planning, designing, and installation of exhibitions at the WFAC.
  • Help manage creative services interns who assist in departmental duties and skills-based projects (like graphic design, social media, merchandising).
  • Coordinate volunteers (ambassadors/docents, salespeople, photographers, etc.) for events, as well as communicate volunteer job expectations through proper orientation, training, assigning, and coaching.
  • Help to facilitate merchandise and visitor experience duties including inventory, on-site setups (ie product display), and marketing to the growth of our WFAC visitor experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Creative Services Assistant must understand and believe in the mission of WaterFire Providence and be able to articulate that to volunteers, interns, and our visitors. Knowledge of best practices in branding, graphic design, marketing, and merchandising is most important. The individual in this position must possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1-2 years of professional experience in a creative role
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be fully competent and experienced in Adobe Photoshop
  • Working knowledge of creative software including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace is required, and experience with project management software is a plus
  • Proven knowledge of shooting and editing video; proficiency in video production and editing software
  • Solid familiarity with in-app Instagram and TikTok content creation
  • Proficiency in Canon or Nikon DSLR camera systems, as well as other equipment and tools, is a plus
  • Familiar with editorial photography/videography techniques, principles, equipment, and lighting is a plus

COMPENSATION:

Compensation will be for a full-time salaried position which will be competitive and commensurate with experience in the range of $35,500 – $40,000 per year. Advancement opportunities are available. Employee opt-in benefits include health insurance, dental insurance, and retirement savings plans. Paid time off. Job schedule is typically Monday to Friday; adjusted during events/programming with nights and weekends required
