Dr. Judy Bentkover is an educator, author and consultant. As a health economist, Judy is a Professor of the Practice at Brown University’s School of Public Health and Tufts University’s Economics Department.  At Brown’s School of Professional Studies, she developed and served as Executive |Academic Director of the blended online and on-campus Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership program.  Her recent book, Leading Strategic Change in an Era of Healthcare Transformation, which she co-authored with two other Brown University faculty members, provides useful material for healthcare leaders trying to drive transformational change in their institutions and has been widely adopted as a textbook.

Dr. Bentkover regularly consults with colleges and universities, assisting in the development and implementation of healthcare degree and certificate programs, preparing self-study and accreditation materials, and leading strategic planning efforts related to focused growth, mission accomplishment, faculty recruiting, advisory panel formation, and reputation enhancement.

In addition, Dr. Bentkover draws on her 3 decades of experience in management consulting for global healthcare providers and payers, and manufacturers of biopharmaceutical and medical device products about their corporate strategic reactions to various healthcare policy initiatives, maximizing revenue through market access plans, strategic pricing and reimbursement initiatives, and sales. Within the area of healthcare, Dr. Bentkover has worked across all therapeutic areas.  Her applied research has focused on PTSD, neurological, cardiovascular, oncological, GI, GU, pulmonary, as well as muscular-skeletal diseases, products, and services.  Having consulted to several global healthcare regulators, Dr. Bentkover has conducted training seminars related to NICE and similar entities that recommend and approve medical products.

Judy began her career as an International Financial Analyst reporting to the Treasurer of Exxon.  She then joined Arthur D. Little, Inc. where she became a Vice-President and Director in the international healthcare consulting group, providing policy guidance to Federal, state, local and international government agencies and multinational biopharmaceutical companies.  Later, she joined the Harvard Faculty (School of Public Health, Kennedy School of Government), and served as Director of Research at the Greater Boston Health Forum.  Next, she started her own company, which was acquired by KPMG; she became Partner-in-Charge of KPMG’s global strategic consulting practice for biopharmaceutical and medical device companies.  After leaving KPMG, she started another consulting practice serving clients in both life sciences and healthcare systems.  Several years later, she returned to academe and developed blended online and on-campus executive programs at Brown while teaching more conventional courses at Brown and at Tufts.  Now, blending academe and the real world, she is splitting her time between teaching and consulting.

Judy serves on nonprofit boards, both in healthcare/education (Rhode Island Health and Educational Building Corporation) and the arts (WaterFire).  In the past, she has served on visiting committees and boards of health centers and healthcare providers.  From her board involvement, she acquired considerable experience and expertise in governance and finance related to nonprofit organizations.

Dr. Bentkover is a frequent guest lecturer, has published much of her research in peer-reviewed journals, authored books, and is often invited to write editorials, and present her opinions in radio interviews.  She has been named to the list of most influential health care policy thought leaders.
