Charles C. Newton

This year Charles retired as the Administrator for Rhode Island’s Minority Business Compliance Office after a 26-year career helping W/MBE’s successfully compete for state procurement opportunities. He now serves as Vice-Chair of the Providence Board of Licenses. Charles received numerous awards for his contributions to minority business including the RI Small Business Champion of the Year Award by the US Small Business Administration and the Business Leadership Award from the RI Black Business Association. Charles is also known for his commitment to the community.  He was a CYO coordinator for the Diocese of Providence, served as a board member of the Catholic School Collaborative, coached CYO basketball for 20 years and chaired the board of the East Side YMCA and the RI Black Heritage Society. He continues to serve on many non-profit boards including The Center for Women and Enterprise, Local Initiative Support Corporation, Ocean State Business Corporation, and The Rhode Island Joint Reinsurance Agents Association. He is a member of the Providence College Black Alumni Association, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated, the Providence Chapter of the NAACP, RI Association of Affirmative Action Professionals, and Diversity & Inclusion Professionals. Charles is married to Linda Newton and has two adult children, Marc Newton, and Lorraine Newton Lalli.
