Dr. Barbara Mullen

Dr. Barbara Mullen is currently serving as the Director of the Learning Leader Network for the Center for Leadership and Educational Equity, in Providence, Rhode Island. At CLEE, Dr. Mullen supports Rhode Island School Districts with continuous improvement toward equitable outcomes. Dr. Mullen also supports various organizations within the educational ecosystem, including The Rhode Island Department of Education and United Way Rhode Island and other community agencies. Dr. Mullen has a wide variety of experience in cultural competency, leading for instructional and systemic equity, and supporting special populations. Her research area is around leadership to facilitate change management and school improvement/transformation with an equity lens. She has served students, families, and educators in several large urban districts across various campus and district level leadership roles across the nation. Dr. Mullen has served as a Texas Education Policy Fellow and is also presently serving as an advisory member of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Network For School Improvement Community of Practice. She is the author of Secure Your Oxygen Mask First: Strategies to Prevent Burnout in Special Education Practitioners and numerous publications both digital and print. She currently lives in North Providence, RI with her family.
