RI Rally4Recovery“Rally4Recovery is pleased to collaborate for the fourth year with WaterFire to put a public face on recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs, mental illness and developmental disabilities,” said Jim Gillen, Chair of the RI Recovery Month Coalition. “We know how important it is for Rhode Islanders and our elected officials to know that people can and do recover and lead full and productive lives when they get the help they need.”  Rally4Recovery takes place at Roger Williams National Memorial and includes a procession to Memorial Park at  WaterFire.

1:30pm – 7:00pm – The RI Rally 4 Recovery Event at The Roger Williams Memorial Park

The Rally 4 Recovery is an annual festival organized by a coalition consisting of persons in recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs, their family members, friends and allies. Musical performances by: Drums of Freedom, The Recovery All Stars, The Senders, Ivan Neville and the Dumstaphunk Band. Family friendly activities will include: children’s and adult crafts, face painting, children’s bouncy houses by Jumpin’ Fun, faith based activities, recovery tree dedications, quilt square dedications and quilt display, inspirational and recovery speakers, and advocacy programs.

Starting at 7:00pm there will be a luminaria procession from Roger Williams Memorial Park to the Starry, Starry Night installation in Memorial Park.

5:00pm – 11:30pm Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular Installation in the Waterplace Basin

The famous Roger Williams Park Zoo Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular will be on site to entertain visitors young and old. A portion of the Zoo’s 5,000 pumpkins can be found in Waterplace basin, free to the public, throughout the evening.

6:00pm – 1:00am – Experience RI WaterFire Shuttle at the corner of Washington & North Main Streets.

Experience_RI_Logo-(1)Forego the hassle of parking downtown on busy Saturday nights. The folks over at Experience RI have introduced a “hop on, hop off” shuttle that travels throughout Providence from 5pm to 1am every Saturday night. Once on board you will be taken to the most popular attractions around the city, including WaterFire, Providence Performing Arts Center, Trinity Repertory Theater, Federal Hill, Thayer Street, and much more! Starting Saturday, September 7, 2013 through November 9, 2013, Experience RI will donate $5.00 to WaterFire Providence for every $10 adult ticket sold on its hop on, hop off shuttle service running on WaterFire nights. Additionally, Experience RI will be donating $1 for every ticket sold through November 9, 2013 for Saturday Night Shuttles on non-WaterFire nights as well as for their Explore Providence, Providence Dinner Tour and Newport for a Day experiences. This outdoor show will be held on Washington Street, in the heart of WaterFire. WaterFire Arts Festival Plaza will offer visitors the opportunity to purchase artwork by Rhode Island-based artists.

TEN31 Performers on the World War Monument7:00pm – 10:00pm – A TEN31 Fairy Tale at WaterFire at the World War Monument in Memorial Park

This special performance will include over a dozen TEN31 characters, some never seen before at WaterFire. In addition to surrounding the Monument with Living Statues, a collection of Human Birch Trees will meander and integrate into the performance, and will also include special dance performances by TEN31’s Fairies. The Dance of the Fairies will occur multiple times throughout the night at: 7:15pm, 8:15pm, 9:15PM and 9:55pm. As always, this performance is paid through donations collected during the performance. TEN31 will provide a portion of the proceeds to WaterFire.

8:00pm – 10:00pm – Catch WaterFire Performers along the River

  • Liz Knights & Andrew Lindsay, fire dancers, skillfully dance amidst the sparks spinning fire along the river; you can find them performing on the boats and on ‘The Wall” of braziers in Memorial Park throughout the night
  • Stop by Union Plaza to see the internationally acclaimed, award winning music and dance group, Inca Son.  All dressed as their Inca fore-bearers performing enchanting melodies on their Andean pan-flutes.
