Thanks to an anonymous donor, the funding has come together to produce the 2nd Annual Christmas WaterFire benefiting and showcasing the incredible work of the Providence Rescue Mission and as a wonderful gift to the City of Providence!

In the spirit of giving and to kick off holiday festivities in Providence, WaterFire will light the fires from Waterplace basin to the Steeple Street bridge and transform Waterplace Park and the entire Waterplace basin into a winter wonderland. Festivities will commence in Waterplace Park at 5:00 p.m. Be sure not to miss the Christmas tree lighting in Waterplace basin at 6:00 p.m. immediately followed by the lighting of WaterFire.  Join in singing Christmas carols throughout Waterplace park starting at 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 pm.

Help us make this the best Christmas WaterFire ever!

With only a little more than two weeks left before the big celebration and Christmas tree lighting at WaterFire we are reaching out to our local businesses and individuals like you! Would you like to add your own light to the night for this joyful community event? Show your creativity, support your community, and help to bring the spirit of Christmas downtown this season!  Check out our blog post for more information on sponsoring a tree.

Special activities will include a glorious tree lighting, a special visit from Santa Claus, Christmas caroling, free cookies and hot beverages and a merchandise tent with WaterFire gifts for sale for the WaterFire fans in your life. Many other special surprises and festivities will be announced over the next few weeks so stay tuned!

“We cannot imagine a more beautiful image than the entire basin area of WaterFire burning bright, infused with a touch of the Christmas spirit and displaying trees decorated by our very own local businesses! We will be exploring community interest in this idea over the next few weeks and if we find that companies would like to participate, our hope is to produce a veritable forest of decorated trees illuminated by firelight”. -Sean Carew, Executive Director of the Providence Rescue Mission

WaterFire is encouraging the public to bring donations of new unwrapped toys and gifts, food, clothing and other items for the Providence Rescue Mission.  The Providence Rescue Mission is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is 100% privately funded and serves many thousands of men, women and children in the Providence community. “We serve the poor with dignity and respect. We feed and clothe the addicted and homeless; our doors are open to all, free of charge.” says Carew.

“WaterFire is excited to produce this wonderful event for our community for the second year in a row. In the hustle and bustle of the holiday season we sometimes forget to simply take a moment to breathe, reflect, enjoy and celebrate each other. A Christmas WaterFire is exactly the place to do that. We are also thrilled to partner once again with the Providence Rescue Mission, a phenomenal organization who extends the spirit of kindness, generosity and giving all 365 days out of the year to the underserved and homeless.” -Bronwyn Dannenfelser, Director of Development

This will be a wonderful opportunity for the entire community to take a moment out of the hectic holiday schedule and gather downtown for a wonderful family friendly celebration.  Make your way from the fires downtown to a host of great shops in the heart of our capital city.  Or, finish up some of your last minute shopping at Providence Place, right next to the fires.
