Welcome to the new WaterFire Providence website!

Welcome to the new WaterFire Providence website!
While we loved our old website, over the past few years technology has advanced incredibly and we wanted to take advantage of that.
So you’ll still find all of the important information that you need to make your WaterFire experience the best it can be; things like the WaterFire season schedule as well as detailed information about what’s happening at each event. But you’ll also find that we will be updating you more frequently and showcasing more of the great photography and videography shot each week by our amazing volunteers.
We will also be giving you more of an inside peak at what goes on at WaterFire Providence before, during and after our events.
Finally, you’ll be able to enter into the arts conversation with us.
So after you have a chance to dig into it, please let us know, in the comments below, what you like and don’t like about our new website.
Now we have a web-space where we can share with you more of how we creatively transform Providence and that’s exciting!

June 29, 2012I sorely miss the old Waterfire website, and i hate the new website. I ‘m very disappointed because the new website does not provide any information about what is going on on each Waterfire night. In the past, you have identified what bands would be playing where, and where other things would be. Now, there is just no information. Why have you messed up a good website so badly? Also, for the past two or three years, the Rhode Island Philharmonic has played to large and grateful audiences at the TD Bank/ Turks Head location. Are they playing this year? There is no indication that they are playing, or that anyone else is playing. I go to Waterfire not only for the fire-lighting but mainly for the communal joy and the music. Why aren’t you giving any hints about what live music is scheduled and where?

June 29, 2012Hi Ellen;
Thanks for you feedback on our new website. There is a page for every WaterFire that can be found on the navigation bar near the top of the website. Click on Schedule and then 2012 Waterfire Event Schedule and you should see a drop down for all of our confirmed dates for this summer. Please check back frequently because this schedule may be updated with new dates soon. Also, midway down the page you will find a photo with the word “Schedule” on it; click this box/photo and it will take you to the 2012 WaterFire Event Schedule as well. There is also a photo/box/button that says This Week that is linked to information about the next WaterFire.
The information that we post to the new website is not any different than the information that we would have posted to the old website. In fact, the new website gives us much more opportunity and flexibility to update it more frequently than the old one.
Regarding our very popular collaboration with the RI Philharmonic, unfortunately, we have so far been unable to secure funding for this event for 2012. As the summer rapidly advances the probability of it occurring this year is pretty slim. This is a large, complex and expensive evening to produce. Again, we will be very disappointed if the event doesn’t take place in 2012; however, we are committed to working with the Philharmonic to try to make this happen in 2013.
Again thanks for your feedback on our new website. We hope the above helps you find what you are looking for. Please be assured that any information we currently have about live music and other collaborations is up on the site and all new information is posted as soon as we have commitments.
Thanks for being a WaterFire fan!

July 20, 2012I totally agree with Ellen Goodman–this new website does not in any way compare to the previous one which gave so much more information and was aesthetically reflective of the event. Waterfire is a work of art, and the previous website conveyed that, appealing to all of our artistic senses. The new website is so foreign to the whole concept of Waterfire. I’m disappointed.

July 25, 2012Thanks for sharing your opinion June. Our new website actually provides more information about each event than the old website did and while we liked the design of the old website when it was launched years ago, it was getting a little old, difficult and expensive to manage. The current website is still a work in progress and we have some exciting things under development. We hope that you give it and us a chance. Thanks again for your feedback.

August 4, 2012I love waterfire, but looking at the event schedule, you mean to tell me there’s no fires from July 21 until August 18th??? There are no dates in between. I’m not so much concerned with what music/bands will be there, just if there is or isn’t a fire on Saturdays between those dates…
Tim Blankenship
August 4, 2012Lin, Yes it’s true. All scheduled events are listed on the Events Schedule.

September 16, 2012Planning a trip to New England in May 2013. I would like to schedule my time in Providence around your event… it looks AMAZING! When will you be posting 2013 schedule? Thanks!
Tim Blankenship
September 20, 2012The 2013 schedule will only be published in the months leading up the 2013 season. Look for the schedule around April 2013.

September 20, 2012The best way to stay informed about all of the exciting things happening at WaterFire is to subscribe to our enewsletter at the top of the page. We look forward to seeing you in 2013!

September 29, 2012Is Waterfire canceled in the event of rain? If so, where is that info posted?
Peter A. Mello, Managing Director
September 29, 2012Rain or shine, the show goes on. People travel very far distances at great experience to experience WaterFire so short of a hurricane, we will light. See you on the river!

January 6, 2013I liked the old website better…you could feel the ambiance of Waterfire when you visited the website. This site should be full of information, but also an artistic impression of being at Waterfire.
Tim Blankenship
January 7, 2013Cathy, Thanks for the feedback. We always like to hear from visitors; often more progress can be made from learning what people don’t like than from hearing only positive reviews. In designing the new WaterFire website we made an active decision to not attempt a literal recreation of being at the event. Capturing the nuance and spectacle of WaterFire in a simple website would be a nearly impossible task. We are working to incorporate more audio/visual elements into this website in 2013 and any insights into what is missing would be welcome. Thanks again for input and we hope to see you on the river in 2103.
