A Special Musical Performance before the Screening!
Prior to the screening of WaterFire: Art & Soul of a City, WaterFire Providence will present a collaboration between four of Providence’s most prominent singers and songwriters: Jess Powers, Sara Azriel, Caroline Hecht, and Tyler-James Kelly.
Jess Powers is the creative visionary behind Chanteuse, a music series she has developed that is now approaching its third year, which showcases female vocalists and highlights the multitude of diverse talent within our community. Formed in the fall of 2010, The Jes Powers Project is a foray into exploring Powers’ own creative vision, sound, and lyrical style. As the first series curated by TJPP, Chanteuse has been well received, with more than 30 vocalists participating over the course of ten shows and with nearly as many additional musicians. Powers is motivated by sharing her creative vision and by serving as a connector to facilitate unique and entertaining collaborations.https://www.facebook.com/thejespowersproject
Sara Azriel is a new-comer onto the local music scene but has long been honing her craft as a singer songwriter. From early beginnings of crafting anthems about her roots on the shores of Lake Michigan, sent searching for her creative voice at famed Berklee College of Music, to travelling cross-country to the front lines of the music scene in LA, Sara has spent the past decade pursuing her creative vision. Encouraged by the diversity of talent within our beloved city of Providence, Sara’s powerful vocals, dynamic range, and lyrical prowess are quickly spurring a burgeoning fan base within our creative community.http://www.saraazriel.com/
Caroline Hecht, following the recent debut of her long awaited solo album, is recognized within the ranks of the music scene as a force not to be underestimated–alluring, haunting and etherial vocals, she possesses an intensity that can almost be described as hypnotic as it slowly draws you in. Whether on banjo or her favored electric guitar she’s dubbed Maggie, Caroline captures the hearts of her peers and fans. http://carolinehecht.bandcamp.com/
Tyler-James Kelly began playing guitar and writing songs at the tender age of four. Drawing influence from iconic legends such as Muddy Waters and Neil Young, Tyler-James has developed his own unique style of flat-picking which he has honed over the years, garnering an avid and loyal fan base throughout the region. Whether he is playing solo, or with his band The Silks, one of the most popular local bands in the Providence music scene, Tyler-James has a demanding stage presence equally matched with his singing, songwriting, and guitar playing skills that are all his own. https://www.facebook.com/thesilksmusic
