Tim Blankenship

Social Media Manager & Webmaster at WaterFire Providence
I've worked at WaterFire since 2003. For the first 9 years of my career here I worked in the Production Shop learning all of the details that go into the physical production of the event. I have recently transitioned to role of managing WaterFire's social media and web presence. I find it very rewarding working to increase engagement with our supporters both locally and globally.

August 13, 2011–8:00p, we were standing under the RISD gazebo about to be married…suddenly we hear the familiar sound–”Daaaaay-O, DDDaaaaay-O”, we both laugh break into the Beetlejuice dance with our officiant & witnesses–compose ourselves after giggling…and proceeded to get married lost amongst the crowd, the glowing flames flickering in the background, forgetting hundreds of people were now watching us–it was a magical, joyous night that neither of us will ever forget!

My favorite Waterfire memory, besides the usual wonder of walking about among thousands of strangers, hearing music, enjoying the summer or fall darkness and the light of the fires on the water, is singing with the RPM gospel choir as part of the 1000 Ships recognition of Providence’s and Rhode Island’s role in the slave trade. What many people don’t realize is that Waterfire is so much MORE than the fires…and that’s what keeps us coming back!

This is something I wrote a few months ago. I plan on designing a PowerPoint Presentation in the next few weeks with music attached.

    Come by the River

Come by the River to See the fire dance on water.
Come by the River to See the gondolas float by the fires.
Come by the River to See the Love blossom between friends and families.
Come by the River to See Love grow to the next stage.
Come by the River to See the mime throw flowers to those who come for fun.
Come by the River to See fish float above the water.
Come by the River to See gargoyles play.
Come by the River to Look for the unknown because you never know what will happen.
Come by the River to Hear the Music in the Air.
Come by the River to Feel the excitement of the ever growing friendship between all.
Come by the River to Taste the food made with caring.
Come by the River to Learn about other cultures.
Come by the River to Learn about dancing without spending a lot.
Come by the River to Find forgotten peace and tranquility.
Come by the River to Remember those who have passed.
Come by the River to Honor those who have accomplished over tragedy.
Come by the River to Laugh yourself silly.
Come by the River to See hard working Volunteers show their love.

Come by the River to Show your love for WaterFire Providence.
