John Schenck was born in Mt. Kisco, NY in 1943 and graduated from Yale with a BA in English in 1965. After a 40-year career in magazine marketing at companies including Time Inc., The New York Times, and Condé Nast in New York City, he moved to Providence in 2006.

In 2008 he wrote, with local food critic Deborah Moxham, a local restaurant guide, “The 91 Best Restaurants in Providence.” That led to writing assignments for Edible RHODY, and in 2009 he teamed up with the magazine’s editor, Genie Trevor, to purchase it. As publisher and editor, they have made it the state’s leading media advocate for local, sustainable food and agriculture. He joined the Board of WaterFire Providence in 2011.
